Dear Friends and Prayer Partners,

We hope that each of you have been doing good and that you’ve been blessed. We have all been doing fine for the most part thanks to God and his mercy. We would like to share with you what has been going on in our ministry in Peru for the last couple of months. We got back safely from our stay in the U.S. on July 31 and gradually got settled in. We were glad to know that some friends helped to continue our ministry in San Sebastian while we were gone. We received some good reports.

Vanessa and her team resumed the lady’s and children’s Bible study that they have been leading on Fridays. It has been going very well! Many women and children have been attending the Bible studies and have learned a great deal about the Bible. Adrian, the boy with down syndrome, has been coming back to the children’s Bible study. Praise God!

We also resumed our Bible studies at Bro. Filadelfo’s home on Thursdays, and we’ve had the opportunity to teach them many topics that greatly helped them in their spiritual lives. Miss Fanny and Miss Vilma have been faithfully attending each week, and Miss Vicky has been attending some Thursdays. We plan to continue teaching them Biblical topics that we feel that God wants us to teach them each week and trust that the Holy Spirit will enable them to understand it and apply to their lives. This Bible study in itself could possibly become a small church. There is no group of people too big or too small for God to be at work in their lives.

For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.  Matthew 18:20

We got the opportunity to participate in a Bible parade and witness to many people in a suburb called “Los Parques”. We rode around the area in our “mission car” (as some people call it), talked to many people, and helped to hand out Gospel tracts and Bibles. This is just one of many ways that my family and I have had the privilege to assist others in telling about Jesus Christ and the Gospel. Therefore, we not only serve as national missionaries in Peru but help local missionaries in whatever way we can. God really does work in extraordinary ways!

Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity.  Colossians 4:5

With God’s help, our ministry is expanding! This month or next month, we plan to organize our second medical campaign (the first where we’ve been present) in San Sebastian, our primary mission zone. Some people from the Tom Cox Foundation have offered to come and help us, and we look very forward to working with them. There is a lot of potential for many people to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ and for others to be impacted for God’s Kingdom. Please pray that the Holy Spirit will already begin touching the hearts of every single person who will come to the medical campaign. Secondly, I was recently asked by a lady from a local church if I was interested in teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) to a group of young people who were mostly unbelievers for free. These are mainly students who attend a nearby institute. I’ve been waiting a long time for this opportunity, and I gladly agreed to do it! I will be starting to teach next month and continue to do it every week. Please pray for me about this as I have not taught ESL officially before. I have the certification but have never actually had hands-on experience or the opportunity to do it. Please note that I will not be charging anyone to teach English as it will be part of our ministry. I will use it as a door opener to share the Gospel and also to disciple anyone who gives their life to Jesus Christ. This will be an extension of the coffee and tea ministry that the church plans to start back on Wednesdays. Next, I plan to start a movie night men’s ministry later this month and our first movie will be “Courageous”. Last but not least, one week from Sunday, we plan to visit people in San Sebastian who attended the last medical campaign and who we’ve never met in person and hopefully start a brand new Bible study if it’s God’s will and lead it each week. We are not sure if we will integrate it with our Thursday Bible study or start a separate Bible study and lead it every Sunday afternoon. We will continue doing this until we officially start our new church. Please be praying about these things as well.

Here is our current prayer need list for October – December:

  1. Please continue praying for our Thursday Bible studies with Bro. Filadelfo, Miss Fanny, Miss Vilma, and Miss Vicky.
  2. Bro. Filadelfo will soon have surgery. Pray that he can have it soon and that it will go well.
  3. Please continue praying for the lady’s and children’s Bible studies on Fridays and for all those who attend.
  4. We recently found a building to rent for a church. Please pray that everything goes well with the paperwork and that we can start having Bible studies and services in the new building soon.
  5. Pray for our upcoming medical campaign that we plan to help organize this month or the next.
  6. Please pray about my new ESL ministry that I plan to start next month.
  7. Pray about our possible new Sunday afternoon Bible study in San Sebastian and that many will attend.
  8. Pray about the new movie night men’s ministry that I plan to start and that many men will participate. There is great potential to reach many men who are unbelievers and share the Gospel with them.
  9. Please pray that all of our family’s needs will continue to be met from day to day. Also, continue to pray for our safety and well-being.
  10. Pray for our families in Peru as well as the U.S. Pray especially for those who are lost and those who are sick.
  11. Finally, pray that the Holy Spirit will touch as many lives as possible and that God’s will be accomplished in Chiclayo and all of Peru.

Your prayers are very important to us, and words cannot express how grateful we are for each and everyone of them! Even if we never received a penny for what we do in Peru, just your prayers alone are worth more than gold to us! So, please continue to pray for us often. If you have any prayer requests of your own, please feel free to share them with us, and we’ll be honored to pray for you.

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.  James 5:16

We would like to thank all those who have prayed for us and also those who have supported us financially. We are very grateful for all that you’ve done, and could not have done it without your help. Always know that you have really been making a difference in the lives of many in Peru for God’s Kingdom. Let’s continue to work together to help spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ not only in Peru but to all the world. Please feel free to contact us anytime by phone, text, Facebook, or e-mail as we look very forward to hearing from you! Our U.S. phone number is 601-680-3634 and my personal e-mail address is [email protected]. May God continue to bless you and your families.

Sincerely in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,

Shane, Vanessa, Laura, Joshua, Matt, Jeremiah, and Bella Smith
